Soprano Lydia Gray is currently a Filstrup Resident Artist at Tulsa Opera, where she will be covering Micaëla in La tragédie de Carmen, in addition to performing the role at the student matinee performance this upcoming season. In 2024, she was a Fellow at Opernfest Prague, covered the roles of Isabelle/Madeline in Face on the Barroom Floor with Tulsa Opera and was selected to participate in Opera America’s Career Blueprints program. For the 2022-23 season, she performed the roles of Martha Jefferson/Dr. Lyman Hall in 1776 with Theatre Tulsa, Elvira Condomine in Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit with Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park, Jenny in The Christians with American Theatre Company, Judith Bliss in Noël Coward’s Hay Fever with Theatre West and Lina Lamont in Theatre Tulsa’s Singin’ in the Rain. She also appears on camera as Mistress Page in a film adaption of Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor, Ms. Linda in Be Good, Julie in Heaven’s Date and Susan in The Lesson.
She made her mainstage debut (on two weeks notice!) with Heartland Opera Theatre as Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief. With Red River Lyric Opera, she sang Musetta in La bohème and Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore and covered Lauretta in Gianni Schichhi. Other roles include: Annaliesa Grüber in the Christmas production of A Gift of Song with Cimarron Opera; Beatriz in Catan’s La hija de Rappacini, Lightfoot McClendon in Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree, Juliette in an outreach production of Roméo et Juliette, Phyllis in Iolanthe and Drusilla in L’incoronazione di Poppea.
Equally comfortable in the realms of theatre and film, Ms. Gray continues to build a body of work within these disciplines. With Theatre Tulsa, she has sung Jenny Lind in Barnum, Rapunzel in Into the Woods and was a swing for Beauty and the Beast, going on seven times for indisposed colleagues, which included the roles of Madame de la Grand Bouche (the wardrobe) and two of the Silly Girls. Other theatre credits include Guenevere in Camelot, Laurey in Oklahoma!, the soprano soloist in the vocal trio of Public Works version of The Tempest, Claire de Loone in On the Town and Maria in Sound of Music. She is represented by Reel Talent Studio for film, television and commercial work. She is currently an Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) for membership in Actor’s Equity Association (AEA).
Ms. Gray won first place in the Hyechka Club of Tulsa’s collegiate music awards, second place in the Southeastern NATS Competition for the Graduate Women category. She is also a two-time Talent award recipient from the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant, for both piano and vocal solos. She holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University Oklahoma.
